Materials and accessories

QtyPart
1Wood glue (water-resistant D3)

Also: sandpaper (grit 120 and 240), a utility knife or fine saw and, for joints, a rubber mallet.

Carving and finishing

  1. Clamp the workpiece flat on the spoilboard or secure it with double-sided tape, and set the origin as shown in the carving assistant.
  2. First carve the windows, the keyhole and the slots in the feet, then the outer contours (all with the 3.175 mm end mill).
  3. Free the parts at the holding tabs with a utility knife or fine saw and sand the tab remains flush.
  4. Lightly break the edges with sandpaper (grit 120, then 240) and remove burrs.

Assembly and final touches

  1. Glue the middle layer (open at the top) flush onto the back, then the front layer with the window. Press evenly with clamps and two boards.
  2. Once dry, slide the photo in from the top. To stand it up, push the frame into the slots of the two feet; to hang it, put the keyhole over a screw.
  3. Finally oil, wax or varnish; for toys use oils or varnishes that are saliva-resistant according to EN 71-3.
