Materials and accessories
| Qty | Part |
|---|---|
| 1 | Wood glue (water-resistant D3) |
| 1 | Wood paints or acrylic paints |
Also: sandpaper (grit 120 and 240), a utility knife or fine saw and, for joints, a rubber mallet.
Carving and finishing
- Clamp the workpiece flat on the spoilboard or secure it with double-sided tape, and set the origin as shown in the carving assistant.
- First the recesses in the board, then cut out letters, inner parts, board and bottom.
- Free the parts at the holding tabs with a utility knife or fine saw and sand the tab remains flush.
- Lightly break the edges with sandpaper (grit 120, then 240) and remove burrs.
Assembly and final touches
- Glue the board onto the bottom. Glue the small inner parts (for A, B, D, O, P, R …) exactly in the middle of their recess; an inserted letter helps with alignment.
- Paint the letters in bright colours and round all edges well. Only use saliva-proof paints and oils.
- Finally oil, wax or varnish; for toys use oils or varnishes that are saliva-resistant according to EN 71-3.
