Build instructions

Materials and accessories

QtyPart
1Neodymium disc magnets and two-component adhesive
2Wood screws 4 × 35 mm with wall plugs

Also: sandpaper (grit 120 and 240), a utility knife or fine saw and, for joints, a rubber mallet.

Carving and finishing

  1. Clamp the workpiece flat on the spoilboard or secure it with double-sided tape, and set the origin as shown in the carving assistant.
  2. Clamp the strip with the later back face up. Mill the magnet pockets and screw holes; the pockets go down to the set skin at the front. Then cut out the outline.
  3. Free the parts at the holding tabs with a utility knife or fine saw and sand the tab remains flush.
  4. Lightly break the edges with sandpaper (grit 120, then 240) and remove burrs.

Assembly and final touches

  1. Stack as many magnets into each pocket as will fit, all with the same side to the front, and pot them with two-component adhesive. Do not choose a skin thinner than 1.5 mm, otherwise it will crack.
  2. Screw the strip to the wall with two screws. Put knives on spine first so the edge does not scrape over the wood.
  3. Finally oil, wax or varnish; for toys use oils or varnishes that are saliva-resistant according to EN 71-3.
