Carving and finishing
- Clamp the workpiece flat on the spoilboard or secure it with double-sided tape, and set the origin as shown in the carving assistant.
- First the window of the frame, then cut out frame, base and the twelve pieces.
- Free the parts at the holding tabs with a utility knife or fine saw and sand the tab remains flush.
- Lightly break the edges with sandpaper (grit 120, then 240) and remove burrs.
Assembly and final touches
- Glue the frame flush onto the base. The pieces fit into the 6 × 10 frame with clearance; to start, lay out a 5 × 6 field with six pieces.
- Paint the pieces in six colours if you like; do not varnish the edges or they will jam.
