Build instructions

Materials and accessories

QtyPart
6Glass marbles
2Wood screws 4 × 35 mm with wall plugs
1Wood glue (water-resistant D3)

Also: sandpaper (grit 120 and 240), a utility knife or fine saw and, for joints, a rubber mallet.

Carving and finishing

  1. Clamp the workpiece flat on the spoilboard or secure it with double-sided tape, and set the origin as shown in the carving assistant.
  2. Mill the slanted mortises in the board and the holes for the rim strips, then cut out board, ramps, rim strips and end piece.
  3. Free the parts at the holding tabs with a utility knife or fine saw and sand the tab remains flush.
  4. Before gluing, dry-fit everything. If a joint is too tight, increase the clearance by 0.05 mm and carve the part again; if it wobbles, reduce it.

Assembly and final touches

  1. Plug the rim strip into the front of each ramp and glue it. Push the ramps with their tenons into the board; the low end points alternately right and left. The ramps can be turned over for this.
  2. Screw the board to the wall with screws and plugs. Plug the end piece into the lowest ramp (the one with the extra mortise) at its low end so the marble stops. Put a marble in at the top and watch.
